Train passengers who spend more than 150 euros on a ticket will be able to pay little by little, without interest.
Under the new system, train passengers can divide the cost of the ticket into four separate, equal payments, according to the state railway operator, Renfe.
This is because they have struck a deal with Aplazame, which is a digital banking platform (WiZink), accessible on the Renfe website.
“The objective is to optimise customer service through improved technological solutions, so that travellers can enjoy the purchase as much as the journey,” says Renfe.
In 2020, the Government liberalised the Spanish railway system by permitting high-speed train competitors such as the French company, Ouigo, and the Italian one, Iryo to participate. Consequently, Renfe has been lowering its prices to remain competitive with the newcomers.
So, how do you purchase train tickets under these new conditions? The customer choses which tickets he or she requires and then choses the form of payment: Tarjeta/Paga en 4 meses sin intereses, which is on the website. You click on the “Aplazame” option which you reach via “Otras formas de pagar.” You will need an email address, your NIE information, and a bankcard to complete the operation.
This system is just one of the new features that Renfe has set up, thanks to an investment of 164m euros, in order to modernise the ticket-sales & bookings format.
