Fleeing a Road Checkpoint

A 25-year-old man is facing dangerous-driving charges, as well as refusing to be breathalysed and injuring a police officer.

SPN Guardia Civil nighttime road check drugs alcoholIt was during the early hours of the 22nd of October within the municipality of Granada that the driver of a Volkswagen Scirocco came across a road checkpoint, manned by the Guardia Civil where they were testing for alcohol & drug use at the wheel.

He pulled off the road to where indicated and joined the other cars waiting to be ‘processed.’ When the officer said that he was going to have to take a breathalyser test, the driver accelerated away, clipping the police officer, injuring his hand.

The driver will now have to appear before a magistrate to face trial unless he pleads guilty to avoid one.

Editorial comment: surely it is better to accept being breathalysed, even if you are over the limit, than to refuse it and be charged with that which would be a stiffer punishment.
