The Guardia Civil are investigating a fire that occurred in a Salobreña chiringuito in the early hours of Sunday.
The police are treating it as a possible case of arson as the owner is a councillor on the Town Council. We’re referring to Pedro Ruiz de la Rica who is the owner of La Bahía, which is next to Chiringuito El Peñón.
Apparently, an eyewitness saw several people running away from the scene of the fire. Fortunately, given the hour, nobody was hurt and the damage caused by the fire was not considerable as it was quickly dealt with.
The fire started in the canes that make up the roof over an outside dining area, but between the owner and the fire service it was soon put out before it could spread.
The reason that the police think that it may be a case of arson is because there is a certain unrest around town because of this coming vote of no confidence that will see the Mayor ousted. In fact, the chiringuito’s owner’s party is the one that has called for the vote of no confidence.
