This month sees the famous Classical Guitar Competition held in the village, which attracts participants from all over the world.
Consequently, the First Councillor’s Office is busy finalising the necessary preparation for what will be the XXXVIII Certamen Internacional de Guitarra , set to begin on the 21st and conclude on the 25th of November.
As has been the case for many years, the venue is the Civic Centre Auditorium, although readers will remember that it used to be held in the village church.
The membership of judges panel has been confirmed, including as chairman Francisco J. Giménez Rodríguez, who is a professor of Musicology at the University of Granada. To mention one of the former winners of the competition on the panel is Franz Halász, who won First Prize in 1993 and who has since become a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, Germany.
It is also proposed that the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra be in charge of accompanying the finalist competitors this year, performing the work Concert in D Major for Guitar and Orchestra op. 99 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
