A 60-year-old man lost his life whilst out hiking after falling and striking his head.
The accident occurred within the municipality of Lanjarón yesterday, according to the emergency centre 112, in the area known as Huerta de las Monjas around 14.00h. According to witnesses, the man fell about ten metres, hitting his head.
Two helicopters were sent; one an air ambulance belonging to SAS (Andalusian Health Service), and the other to the Guardia Civil, mountain-rescue service.
It is not clear from the 112 press release whether the victim was already dead when they arrived or he had died from his injury later in hospital
