An illegal house on Urb. Los Tablazos in Moraleda de Zafayona was finally torn down yesterday, following a demolition order.
According to the owners it ended this way because the lawyer that they had used hadn’t done his work properly. The result was the sum of their life’s savings that they had invested in their small home was now lost during the 15 minutes that it took to knock the bungalow down.
Friends, family and neighbours had turned out to witness, with impotence, the destruction with the mood growing ugly, so that the Guardia Civil, who were there to see the judge’s order carried out, were hard pressed to keep them back.
Some broke through the police cordon but they were tackled and brought down before being returned to the ranks of the crowd numbering close to a hundred.
There could have been a reprieve as there are several houses in this urbanización in similar legal situation and it is only a question of time, thanks to a new law issued by the Junta, for the urbanización to be legalised. In fact, the Town Hall is supposedly changing the Municipal Urban Development Plan to include it.
For this reason, the owners were only asking for a few more months to find an efficient lawyer, and join the rest of the property owners who have a chance of keeping their homes, one brick on top of the other…
