Roadwork Grumbles

The Motril opposition party, Centrados en Motril has expressed its concern over the problems caused to residents by seemingly eternal roadworks.

MOT Calle Comedias Eternal RoadworksThe street in question is Calle Comedias and the owners/tenants of local business premises around the works have complained about the situation, having lost a sense of “empathy” with the Town Hall.

The completion date given by the Town Hall, they consider, bears no resemblance to reality. So great has been the disruption that not only have many lost trade but some are even contemplating throwing in the towel.

When local business proprietors on Calle Comedias were summoned to the Town Hall, just before July the 12th when works started, they were informed that the street would be accessible within three weeks and that the schedule for completion would be around six weeks in total. Yet, here we are in October and the works continue.

For this reason, Centrados en Motril considers the business owners’ demand for “honesty and transparency” from the Town Hall to be totally reasonable. They also consider that the Town Hall should help with financial aid and more leniency when it comes to paying local taxes on their businesses.
