The Motril Policía Local arrested a man in Calahonda who had a European Arrest Warrant out in his name, issued by the Belgian authorities.
The Belgian judicial authorities have begun the extradition process for him to be returned to Belgium to face trial over his alleged implication in two crimes.
It was just after midnight last night that the Moroccan fugitive, in the company of two other individuals, was identified.
The three men were the occupants of a car, which the police had stopped because of the “nervous and erratic behaviour” of the driver and passengers.
When stopped and asked to produce proof of identity, one of the names triggered a response on the Unidad Oficina Sirene online platform (international cooperation of national police forces to locate fugitives from the law).
This individual was arrested and transferred to the police station to be retained in police custody.
