The Guardia Civil are looking into an individual, who has a criminal record, for taking over three hundred euros that somebody had forgotten to collect from an ATM.
This happened in cajero de Castell de Ferro after a bank customer used a cashpoint in Castell to withdraw 350 euros. But instead of pocketing the money, the man or women (it isn’t clear which) was momentarily distracted and walked off without picking it up.
Enter the 52-year-old man immediately afterwards who took the money that was still pocking out of the paying out slot in the ATM.
The victim returned almost immediately – but not immediately enough – and found the money was gone, so he/she reported it to the Guardia Civil.
Police officers went round to the branch and examined the CCTV footage and saw who had picked it up. He may face charges of misappropriation.
Editorial comment: I know that if you fail to retrieve your card the machine will automatically keep it after a short amount of time so that nobody else can take it, but it doesn’t appear to be the case of cash in the payout slit.
