Nevada Pedestrian Subway

Pedestrians wishing to get from the PTS Hospital in Granada to the Nevada Shopping Centre take their lives into their own hands.

GRA Pedestrian underpass Nevada ShoppingNow things are changing because the Junta de Andalucia has obtained permission from the Central Government Ministry of Transport to perforate a tunnel through the A-44 autovia embankment to make way for a cycle/pedestrian underpass or subway, if you prefer.

Work commenced on the 31st by creating two tunnel entrances; one either side of the embankment. Now they are constructing a long metal box that will be the tunnel lining.

This work is being carried out at night so as to cause the least bother during the morning and evening rush hours.

The A-44 bypass carries 101,491 vehicles every day so all work is being carried out in such manner as not to disrupt the traffic or cause damage to the integrity of the embankment.

All work should take between three and four weeks.
