Two elderly British residents of Urbanización Mirador overlooking La Viñuela Reservoir in the Axarquia were involved in an incident with one being hospitalised .
The Chairman of the Urbanización, 80-year-old, David James, who had lived there since 2018, was starting to have problems with his 74-year-old neighbour. In fact, according to Mr James, most people on the urbanizacíon were having problems with the said neighbour.
Things came to a head on the 12th of August in the afternoon when Mr James returned home after lunching at a friends house. When he reached the entrance gate to his home he saw that several large stones had been placed in the way. At this point he heard his problematic neighbour’s wife shouting, “Help, help, he’s going to kill me!”
The neighbour appeared and Mr James asked him if it was he who had put the stones there. He responded that he hadn’t and that they had fallen down the hillside. Mr James says that he noticed that the other man appeared drunk but even so was intent upon driving his car.
According to Mr James, he tried to stop him driving away by attempting to remove the ignition keys. In response, he (from what can be deduced from the source article) used the car to push Mr James first up against the gate and then ran over him five times. Apparently there are witnesses who back this version.
With all the commotion neighbours started to appear (around 15) to see what all the fuss was about.
“He tried to kill me, running over me five times,” explained Mr James, who has fractured hips and several ribs, as well as bruises to his head and arms, adding, “he then picked up a stick and beat me with it.” Fortunately, the neighbours intervened.
The Guardia Civil took 45 minutes to arrive at the scene, the neighbours complained. When they did arrive, it was to arrest the aggressor, charging him with attempted murder. In the meantime, pending trial, he is being kept in custody
Mr James spent ten days in hospital and is now recovering at home.
