School Books for Bolivia

Volunteers in Salobreña have been collecting school material for school children in poor area of Bolivia.

SAL School Books for BolivaThe organiser behind this is Jesús Antonio Fernández Olmedo, who has spent the last 35 years carrying out social campaigns of this sort, as well as giving talks about bullying at school in Africa, Asia and the Americas.

There has been a cycle parade around Salobreña with the riders wearing T-shirts bearing the slogan, “One Pencil, One Smile,” with the objective of attracting school-material donations.

They have also handed out pamphlets explaining how you can participate in the campaign and even, if you wish, to accompany the expedition in order to see the material being delivered and to see what the area is like.

The collected material is going to the Vallegrande, in the Amazon Jungle area within the Departamento de Santa Cruz.

Jesús Antonio Fernández Olmedo will be arriving there in August with the material collected.

Editorial comment: the source does not explain the conditions for travelling to Brazil nor how much it would cost you – sorry. We’ll see if we can glean some information from Radio Salobreña, which has also reported on this.
