All along the coast, and indeed throughout Spain, mayors have received their batons signifying their office.

Some of them are renewing their mayoralty, like in Motril (Mª Luise García Chamorro) in Almuñécar (Jose Luis Ruiz Joya) and further down the coast in Castell de Ferro/Gualchos (Toñi Antequera).

Others have become mayor for the first time, such is the case of Salobreña (Javier Ortega Prados) where a tripartite arrangement was needed to secure a governing majority.

In Molvízar, where things hung in the balance up to the last moment, the PSOE and Centrados are going to share the mayor’s office. The ex-PP mayor who had governed for 20 years, Fermín García, split with the PP and formed Centrados.

Until then, Mólvizar, which had always been a little to the right of Attila the Hun, was a PP stronghold but this internal war has denied them the mayoralty. Instead, Fermin Garcia will inhabit the Mayor’s office, but not straight away.

From now until the 17th of June, 2025 the PSOE socialist, Irene Justo, will be Mayor and after that, Fermin García will be Mayor until the legislature ends in 2027.

Just about all the newly elected mayors promised that they would bring about change (politicians love that word) but the first change will be when municipal politicians across the country vote themselves salary increases, bless their cotton socks.
