Ítrabo Fire Suspect Found

Seprona (Guardia Civil) are investigating a man in his 30s over the hill fire within the municipality of Ítrabo on the 30th of April.

COS Itrabo Fire 30AP23The fire broke around 13.30h in the area of the township known as Pago Las Minas on the Camino de Jurite. Following the fire, a Seprona team inspected the area and determined the point of ignition; i.e., where it started, which was on the land of the accused, where he had reportedly been burning olive-tree cuttings, apparently not having taken any precautionary measures at all.

This year, owing to the prevalent drought, the Junta de Andalucía have imposed exceptional measures, entailing the suspension of all outside fires, meaning even though farmers had previously obtained a permit, it would be null and void.

Not only is there a prohibition on farmers burning cuttings etc, but the lighting of BBQs, even in prepared areas, is completely forbidden.

Lastly, motor vehicles are not allowed to transit forest track or areas within 400 metres of woodlands.
