A 70-year-old man lost his life at the beginning of the week in the Alpujarra when a wall of his house fell on him.

The accident occurred on Monday, not long before 21.30h, which was when 112 received a call from a resident of Bérchules to say that an elderly man had been hit by a collapsing wall at home on Calle Real de Alcútar and was trapped beneath the rubble.

The emergency centre despatched the fire service, the Guardia Civil and an ambulance, where the paramedics on board declared that he had died almost immediately.

Bérchules Town Hall issued a press release expressing their condolences to the family for the “tragic death of a fellow villager, Fernando” when an interior wall collapsed in his dwelling.

The Town is handling the administrative side related to a death until the man’s family in Mallorca can arrive.

Editorial comment: an interior wall? That’s what the info says, though.
