Killed on an Electric Scooter

A young woman in his 20s died yesterday as a result of being run over by a lorry whilst riding an electric scooter.

AND Electric Scooter DeathThe 25-year-old had been riding through a tunnel in Marbella when she was hit by the lorry. Around 18.30h the emergency, call centre, 112, received the first of many calls to report the accident.

The tunnel in question gives access to La Cañada shopping centre, running beneath the autovía. National and Local police and an ambulance were rapidly despatched but the paramedics could do nothing for the victim.

Editorial comment: riding through a tunnel, probably with no lights, was inviting disaster.

@Patrick – problem is that a lot of people who ride cycles/scooters don’t drive and have never developed road sense. Applies to some people driving actual cars too.

That’s why traffic laws favour pedestrians, because you should expect them to be idiots and this goes at least double in tourist zones!). Thanks to electric vehicles, today’s idiots are lots faster than you might be expecting, and it is your job as a driver to try and anticipate these new, improved idiots. From any direction, probably including up. That’s also why the speed limits in town are 25km/h; because stuff IS going to happen, but hopefully not fatal.

I ride an electric vehicle myself and assume that everyone is trying to kill me; but then I have plentiful driving experience and can see things from the driver’s point of view too; which not everyone riding these devices can claim. I also (unlike younger me) know for a fact that I’m not immortal, which – again – doesn’t apply to everyone riding these things.

Either way. Man or woman. Some people .like some on cycles. Seem to think they have a protective force field around them.
Ride on pavements at speed, onto roads, back onto pavement. Up one way or pedestrian only areas.
In Mercadona underground carpark. I was reversing into a space and a young owner and his mate whizzed behind me.
Now to me, likewise with pedestrians that can see you reversing into a space. But ignore you as invisible. They should be at fault. Bugger this. The pedestrian/cyclist is always in the right.!! Somewhere people have to be reasonably sensible. Don’t walk straight out onto the road or crossing. While on your mobile. Without checking for slowing cars. Don’t walk behind a reversing car, blind spots. ? Try to take care. One way streets and arrows in car parks, do actually mean something in law.
Or trust in God or the gods.
