Funds for Storm Damage

The Central Government has just categorised the work needed on sea defences along Costa Tropical as Obras de Emergencias.

ALM Velilla Storm DamageThis would entail earmarking 1,198,000 euros for work on the beaches in the municipalities of Albuñol, Sorvilán, Rubite and Almuñécar.

The Provincial Subdelegate for Central Government, Inmaculada López Calahorro, considers that Costas has been “efficient” in its drawing up of damage reports and that it has done so with alacrity. She said that the coastal work would commence as soon as the work contracts were put out for tender.

Albuñol: Playa de La Rábita will have replacement sand lorried in and the breakwater at the easten end repaired. The sand needed will be taken from the Rambla de Albuñol and the Rambla de Huarea. As for Playa de El Pozuelo, it will also have sand lorried in to replace that which was lost.

Sorvilán: Work will commence on the Melicena beaches, where the breakwater will be repaired at the eastern end of the village,  Peñón de San Patricio, and missing sand will be replaced.

Rubite and Almuñécar: The beaches in Casarones and El Lance, will have sand replaced, as will Playa Cotobro in Almuñécar.

Hmm. Replacing sand every year.!! I guess someone’s happy in their work. Real Sea Defences must be a much more expensive answer. Cheaper to ferry sand in after every big storm. ??
