It was my 64th birthday recently. I can hear you all now, “how can that be? You look barely 35!” But it’s true and I had to decide where I wanted to go for my birthday meal.
Of course, I went for Los Geraneos located in the Plaza de La Rosa in Almuñécar. So, what influenced my choice? There are, after all, plenty of quality restaurants around the town. Well, it’s the usual three suspects; location, service and food.
Pop online and search for this restaurant and you will find, not only fantastic reviews, but also plenty of photos of the beautiful, blue and white facia, making it probably the prettiest restaurant frontage in Almuñécar. If you sit inside during the winter months, you are treated to a cosy eating space, warmed by a log fire. The décor is stylish, yet homely, a hard combination to pull off, by they succeed here.
You often hear about how good the service is when reading about a restaurant, but at Los Geraneos it’s really is special. Eladio and his team are really friendly but they somehow manage to keep the service attentive, knowledgeable but somehow discreet… you don’t feel like they are all over you while you’re trying to chat, yet you never seem to need for anything.
So, what about the grub? Well, I think in any restaurant you can have the odd off-day where the odd dish is not quite up to scratch. However, I’ve yet to experience such an occurrence here. The food is loosely Mediterranean based, but with a definite international feel. This is borne out by the mix of local and foreign diners, all equally comfortable with the cuisine on offer. I won’t bore you by trying to describe my superb, crunchy, chicken, Caesar Salad or the pork in Málaga wine dish.
You really need to visit this venue and take in the whole experience and make sure you book in advance. Seriously, we book our table a week before just to make sure, but have tried a couple of times to just turn up and even my youthful good looks couldn’t get me a table.

Thank you Lynne for your kind thoughts.
But I’m mostly a bit sarcastic, as my life and work showed me a darker side. My lack of trust in those that are in positions of power, either in work or running countries, is well founded. Sadly here in Spain, it seems the Franco years of running things, has just dropped slightly out of sight. A bit like the Ukrainian politicians that have been taking graft for so long. So not angry. Just a bit sad that the world is generally run by money.
Inside I still smile. Little things. Like feeding stray dogs or cats!
Ps. I’m open to offers from rich widows, but my dancing and social skills are a bit rusty!
Lynne. My Mother said don’t talk to strangers. My ex Wife too added. Don’t talk to other women. Both read me like a book. !!
Lynne. I have two Spanish cats. One with a stumpy tail and only one eye. Big brave boy outside. Inside nervous wreck. Loses fights as they can see, he cannot see the right hooks. His light ginger mucker is a softee. But does try to kill easy prey. Then finally the English Sphynx. Needs his blankey during the so called winter. All three have me around their little paws.
I naturally grumpy. 30 years of shift work does that to you. !! So hands full.
This is a seriously good resturant and I agree with your review. Great food, service and not at silly prices.
We need to meet Patrick Barry Storey for a meal/drink. He obviously needs a diversion from something… Is there anything we can do to make him a happier person?
Thank you, Martin. ???
Lynne: Hi, phone them on 958 63 40 20. They’re really busy at the moment (20:04h) so call the a bit later, around 22.00h but don’t wait until another day as you’ll probably won’t be able to make a reservation for Thursday.
Can’t wait to try it!! Have friends leaving in a couple of weeks and we were thinking about restaurants none of us had tried yet. Excited!!
Can you please get a table for 5 on Thursday at 2pm? ??

Hope all went well. !!
