A fireball crossed the skies above the province of Granada that could be seen up to 600 km away.
The phenomenon was part of an asteroid that entered the atmosphere above Chirivel (Almería) crossed over the north west of the province of Granada and burnt out above Arroyo Frío (Jaén).
This occurred during the evening of the 2nd at 22.39h, entering the atmosphere 101 kilometres up before disintegrating at a height of 97 kilometres, according to the astronomic observatories belonging to the SMART project.
Thanks to it being tracked by several observatories at once, its height, course and speed could be triangulated. The SMART project is coordinated by the Instituto Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC).
