Logistics Hub for KIA

Motril Port is steadily gaining importance, despite the lack of rail connection, as is demonstrated by the South Korean car manufacture, KIA, choosing it as a logistics hub.

Deciding factors are the great road communications provide by the A-7 coastal autovia and the A-44 inland one, not to mention the relatively cheap and abundant space available in the Azucenas area of the port.

The Car Carrier Bouzas docked last month in Motril Port, unloading 1,011 cars to be parked on a 20,000 sq/m parking area, for further transportation by road.

The Chairman of the Port Authorities, José García Fuentes, said that this development in the port’s use is the result of a lot of preparatory work “to find a niche” in this sector. He believes that it will have “important repercussions” with the local economy and the creation of both direct and indirect jobs.

The Manager of ARM Motors, Alejandro Castilla, who is the official car-dealer for KIA, can be thanked for putting the Port Authorities in contact withe this car manufacturer.
