The Guardia Civil located and rescued three young girls who had become lost as night came in within the Espacio Natural de Doñana in Huelva.
The information that they had received was that these young girls were somewhere between Matalascañas and Mazagón within this huge park.
Their first attempt to contact them via their mobiles failed but they finally managed to get one to describe the area around them and send a geo-locator reference using a phone app.
Once they had the map reference they were able to send out a patrol to search that area on foot but due to the steep terrain and the dense vegetation they had to return to their vehicle.
They then tried again, work their way around several dunes so that they could approach the exact coordinates. Even then they couldn’t see them and came to the conclusion that the coordinates given by the victim’s phone were inaccurate owing to the poor phone coverage there.
Fortunately, they found recent footprints and followed them whilst calling out as they advanced. Half an hour later (around midnight) the officers heard the girls responding and they finally found them. From there they guided them back to the patrol car and drove them to Matalascañas, where the girls were passing their holidays.
None of them required medical attention
