Some 12,831 drivers in Granada noticed that they had received 308.58 euros from the State - their Covid-restrictions fines had been returned with interest.
They had all been fined 300.50 euros, which was returned with 8.08 euros in interest. The State had had to return nearly 4m euros owing to the court decision that found that the lockdown had been illegal.
The sum was 3,855,715.5 euros plus 103,674.48 euros in interest.
This, of course, was not just the case of people in the province of Granada, but drivers from all over Spain who received this windfall.
It was in December last year that the State began sending out registered letters to people who had been fined for one reason or an other between the 14th of March and the 21st of June 2020. A total of 18,600 fines had been notified although only 12,831 had been fully processed. The rest which were in the pipeline were binned when the court sentence had come out.
It was during summer last year that the Tribunal Constitucional annulled several points within the Estado de Alarma after the opposition party PP took it to court.
Those that received the certified letter from the State informing them that they were entitled to have their fine reimbursed merely had to present an official document to confirm their bank account details for the money to be paid over.

Legally the correct decision but clearly a lucky break for most affected drivers as they knew they were breaking the rules which were in place for good reason

I wonder how the court came to such a decision. I was stopped at the Roundabout by the old disco/club. Luckily was enroute to the Vets in almunecar to pick up cat heart medication. Otherwise traveling out of my Campo casa area.
