New Speed Traps in Place

The Dirección General de Tráfico (Traffic Department) have now brought online three permanent speed traps, installed in 2020.

GRA GR-30 Speed trap before A-395Two of these three speed traps are in the Serrallo Tunnels on the GR-30, (Sierra Nevada) and the other more or less in front of the Nevada shopping centre.

This section of the autovía near Nevada has a speed limit of 90kph and there is a big illuminated signboard indicating this speed restrictions.

Coming into the tunnels, however, the maximum speed is 80kph. Actually inside the tunnels, it’s down to 60kph.

Breaking these speed limits (depending on how much by) comes with fines between 100 and 700 euros. A driver can also lose between two and six point off his or her driving liccence.

True. But in the UK they seem to have fixed that issue. Average speed traps. Buggers I know. But it keeps the money and safety going. I’m sure they will one day copy it here. Like the town that now has car number plate cameras on every entrance and exit. One small step for cash box etc.

Patrick: A much more efficent way would be to tell you were the first camera is, but not where the next one is, and then take the average speed between them.

But on the other hand, this would be a tremendous amount of data to handle as the first speed trap would be registering every car regardless of their speed.

Martin. While a lot of us make mistakes. (I stupidly was looking at M.P.H. Rather then Kms on my old UK car.) Cost €50
Some just don’t care. Once past the speed camera. Yippee back up to a ton or more.
I have and you may have seen the end results of speeding. You going much too fast. Other traffic not. Or car pulls out to overtake so increases speed to do so. But not as fast as you’re going. Of course not intentional. But still a car is as deadly as a gun. Fines and points are a pain. But what do you do to suppress the arrogant stupid drivers. I’m not anti motorway driving. They are safe. Country roads and duel carriages not so. !!
