La Herradura’s Disappearing Banks

Caixa Bank will still be present in Edificio Las Flores, in the premises that used to belong to Caja Granada and then Bankia until it fused with Caixa. This was expected and comes as no surprise.

The Caixa’s old premises will be put on the market and its bank customers will be attended to in Edifício Flores, which is larger than the old one.

The only other banking entity in La Herradura is the Caja Rural de Granada, which is on the opposite side of Rambla del Espinar and the Acera del Pilar.

Things have certainly changed since villagers had four bank branches to choose from: Caja Rural, Santander. Bankia and Caixa Bank, in other words, two high-street banks and two savings banks.

It was over a year ago that Banco de Santander closed its branch in La Herradura during the lockdown, remaining closed  for a total of six months, leaving the Almuñécar branch on the Paseo del Altillo to provide service for customers of both branches.
