Early yesterday morning beachgoers came across an enormous, dead turtle on one of Salobreña's beaches.
One of them phoned 112 around 08.00h to inform them of their find on Playa del la Cagadilla, which is the one beyond the mouth of Rió Guadalfeo.
It might seem strange to phone an emergency number over a dead turtle, but this call centre is an Andalusian neurological centre for all the police forces, fire service, rescue services including mountain and sea ones, so rather than thinking about whom to inform, call 112 and they will channel it through.
In this case, 112 alerted the Guardia Civil, Policía Local and more importantly, the Centro de Recuperación de Especies Amenazadas, which is the entity that took charge of the body.
