Two Salobreña beaches have won the Blue Flag category out of the twelve that were awarded along the Costa Tropical from La Herradura to Castell.
Playa El Peñón and Playa La Guardia were the two beaches awarded for the quality of the sand, services and water. Last year it was the Playa de La Charca that obtained the equally prestigious Q de Calidad category, while the Playa Punta del Río won an ISO 14001.
The Costa Tropical in general has received the highest number of Blue Flag awards in the last 28 years.
Almuñécar-La Herradura, have received a total of six Blue Flags: Playa San Cristóbal, Playa Puerta del Mar, Playa Velilla, Playa La Herradura and Playa Marina del Este, as well as the marina itself.
Motril has renewed its Blue Flag for Playa Granada and for Playa de Calahonda. It’s working on obtaining this distinction for Playa Azucenas and Playa El Cable.
Further along in Castell de Ferro, it has obtained a Blue Flag for the first time for Playa del Sotillo-Castell. The Town Hall has since announced that it is working on obtaining this award for Playa de Cambriles. “At last we have got a Blue Flag,” expressed the Mayor, Toñi Antequera, adding that they were working on obtaining a Q de Calidad/ISO distinction for the Cala de La Rijana.
Torrenueva Costa obtained its Blue Flag for Playa del Cañón-La Pelá. The Mayor, Plácido Lara, said that they wanted this beach, on the edge of the municipality, to receive the same category as the main one in front of the town.
In fact, Spain has received 713 Blue Flags, making it the world leader in this distiction, 137 of which have been for beaches in Andalucía: Cádiz 35, Málaga 41, Huelva 16 and Granada 12.
