The police intercepted him on the A-66 near Cáceres (Extremadura) heading north, pulling him over into a service station where the 47-year-old driver was breathalysed and found to be a staggering six times over the limit – he gave a reading of 0.89 mg/l whereas the limit for commercial drivers is only 0.15 mg/l.
The officers also inspected the cabs tachograph and saw that there were three infringements of obligatory rest periods.
He faces a suspended prison sentence of between three and six months, and a fine or community work. He will also lose his licence for a period of between one and four years.
