UK Covid Strain in Granada

AND Junta Health Minister Jesus AguirreThe Health Minister for the Junta de Andalucía has confirmed five cases of patients with the UK strain of Covid-19. Four more cases are being studied.

Of the five confirmed cases, three of them were detected in the province of Málaga and the other two in the province of Granada. The other four cases that have yet to be confirmed are also in Málaga.

All nine of the cases, both confirmed and those under investigation, are all from people who have returned from the UK to Andalucía.

It is in Granada where the samples are studied, at the Microbiología del Hospital Universitario Clínico San Cecilio, which has the means to sequence the virus genome.

The Junta de Andalucía has underlined the importance of the Central Government providing better control at airports to prevent the virus entering via this means.

Carole: I’m sorry but currently, Spain is only allowing people to fly in with a TIE (Spanish ID for foreigners) or the green, residency paper; not even the approval of residency, so I’m afraid you will not be able to come.

Restrictions, however, will be revised as of the 5th January.
