Village Bank Branch Closes

LHR Banco Santander ClosesThe way things are going, La Herradura will only be left with two bank branches: the Caja Rural de Granada and the Caixa Bank. Here’s why.

One of reasons why is because the Banco de Santander is closing down its branch in the village this month. It comes as no surprise as it has been closed to the public during and since the Lockdown.

This means that if their customers want to be attended in person they will have to go to Almuñécar on the Paseo del Altillo, which is what they have had to do anyway since the office has been shut up (pending a reopening that won’t happen).

Yet, it might not be the only bank that will close its branch in La Herradura because the merger between Caixa Bank and Bankia inevitably means some of their branches will close, especially where they are doubled up – which is the case of La Herradura.

If that happens then the village will definitely be left with two bank branches instead of four: Banco Santander, La Caixa, Bankia and La Caja Rural de Granada.

During most of the year, perhaps just two bank branches can cope but when the summer comes around…
