There was an accident yesterday afternoon around 16.30h on the A-7 on the eastbound lanes of the Ítrabo tunnel after a car hit the side of the structure.
The Almuñécar fire service had to free the 65-year-old, driver from the car wreck, who was travelling by herself at the time. She was taken to Hospital Santa Ana.
Although it is clear that the tunnel had to be closed down whilst the driver was freed and the wreck removed, what is not clear is whether the traffic for both directions was diverted through the remaining tunnel under single-lane traffic flow or simply the traffic on the eastbound lane was stopped, producing a tailback, whilst the tunnel was cleared.
