Sierra Nevada Summed Up

GRA Sierra Nevada April 2020Sierra Nevada closed its 2019/20 season early on the 14th of March with the introduction of the Lock Down, but over all, it was a good season.

Nearly a million users have visited the ski station: 738,484 skiers, 97,583 non-skiers and 122,097 other people who have carried out other snow-related activities. When we say, “other snow-related activities,” we are referring to the Mirlo Blanco complex and the Actividades Borreguiles one, which accounted for the 120,000-odd visitors.

Had it not been for the early closure this season was set to be amongst the five top campaigns in its history. In fact, on a monthly basis, February 2020 was the best month in the ski station’s history with 380,305 visitors in total.

The 2019/2020 skiing season will also go down as the second shortest since the ski station has been operating, lasting 112 days. The shortest was the 1994/1995 season, which lasted 108 days, when there was insufficient snow so that the World Alpine Ski Championships that were scheduled that year had to be postponed to the following year.
