A 32-year-old Spanish man has been arrested for murder after he allegedly set fire to somebody’s caravan with the occupants inside.
One of the victims, a Finnish man, died as a result of the fire whilst his wife managed to get out relatively unscathed. .
The incident took place on the 20th of this month in the Puerto de Mazarrón (Murcia), where the caravan had been parked.
A witness, saw how the woman managed to get out of the carvans moments before the vehicle literally exploded into fire before her husband could get out. It was this witness who had alerted the emergency number 112.
Experts belonging to the fire service were able to establish that the fire began on a mattress that was under the caravan. They also consider that the fire was deliberate.
As for the mattress, the woman said that she did not know where it came from or how it got there beneath the parked caravan. Furthermore, witnesses said that they had seen a man dragging a mattress towards the caravan.
With the description received the police were able to narrow down the list of suspects to a well known local criminal, who had also been tied into other arson incidents in the last few days.
