SAL PanaromicTen years ago with town halls starved of income, many began to fish around for more gelt! Salobreña decided to levy a higher IBI tax on second-home owners in town.

Conscious that this decision would be about as popular as flatulence in a lift, they added that resident 2nd-home owners would pay the normal amount, whereas homeowners from elsewhere, Granada, Madrid, would be clobbered.

As can be expected all hell broke loose with accusation of unconstitutional bylaws, as well as people with summer homes in Salobreña saying that they would not be spending their holidays in town anymore.

Finally, the Town Council had to withdraw the measure and the short-sighted, anti-tourist brainstorm was locked away in a cobweb-decked corner failed bureaucratic idiocy.
