Difficult Arrest in Motril

SPN Policia NacionalA father and son were arrested in Motril by the Policía Nacional, with one of them being accused of carrying out muggings and a burglary.

The 26-year-old son was the one accused of the above, whilst the 52-year-old father was accused of stealing the radio belonging to one of the policemen involved in the arrest, as well as attacking him.

The police had spent several weeks staking out an area where a violent thief was operating, causing a good deal of alarm amongst the local residents. Apparently, the individual had specialised in mugging his victims using a knife to intimidate them.

The younger man, who allegedly began carrying out muggings back in June, has a long criminal record and is well known to the local ‘Law.’ He is also a drug addict.

One of his victims was a pizza-delivery lad, whose taking he stole and the other was a young woman whom he attacked at the entrance to her block of flats. He flung her to the ground, according to the victim, in order to make off with her handbag.

But his activities were not restricted to muggings, because as mentioned above, he also scaled the facade of one building to gain access to a flat where he obtained 800 euros in cash and several items of value.

The plainclothes police officers finally tracked him down on the 8th of this month in the Barrio de San Antonio (the Badlands of Motril). He violently resisted arrest, which attracted a hostile crowd of local residents, amongst whom was his father.

The crowd closed in and began shoving the officers about so they called for reinforcements, which was when the father snatched the radio. The reinforcements arrive and the son was finally brought in to the police station.

The next morning, the police returned to arrest the father for assaulting an officer in the course of his duty and for stealing his police radio.
