The Policía Nacional have arrested a British man, accused of raping a 19-year-old woman of the same nationality on holiday in Marbella.
The young woman went to the Hospital Costa del Sol the following day to report that she had been the victim of sexual aggression, as rape is known in Spanish legal terms.
The hospital, as is the norm, reported the case to the police, who later arrested the suspect.
The victim explained that the previous night she had gone out with a girl friend, who had got very drunk, too, and had met two young British men of the same age. The men had suggested that they continued with the night out at a different venue; the flat belonging to one of the men. That is where the alleged rape took place.
She had gone into the bathroom and he had followed her in and locked the door behind him. She explained that she had been too drunk to cry for help. At the first chance she fled the flat and went to the hospital.
When it came to giving a description to the police, she couldn’t offer much detail but as the suspect was a foreign national in a given area of Marbella, they soon came across somebody who responded to the limited description given by the victim.
As the Public Prosecutor had not recommend his being remanded in custody until facing a judge, he was released pending trial.
