Owing to the fact that 85% of autónomos pay the minimum option possible, Seguridad Social is feeling the strain, so the Government has ideas…
Most autónomos are paying nearly 300 euros a month, which corresponds to as if they were earning 920 euros. Trouble is, many don’t even earn that much, and many others earn more.
So, starting at the beginning of 2019, a new system will come into being where the amount you pay will be according to how much you earn – a bit like the British PAYE system. And about time, too.
Here’s how it will work:
Earning less than 10,302 euros (minimum salary or SMI) per annum your monthly S.S. payment will be 50 euros.
Between SMI and 30,000 per annum, your monthly quota will be 278 euros.
Between 30,000 and 40,000 per annum the rate will be 357 euros
Between 40,000 and 60,000 per annum the rate will be 417 euros
Over 60,000 euros per annum the monthly rate will be 556 euros.
The Minister for Work and Social Security, Magdalena Valerio, concluded that their aim was that nobody paid too much in comparison with what they were earning and that those who could pay more, should do precisely that.
