The Almuñécar Fire Service, together with the municipal police, rescued a German tourist from the Rambla del Espinar in La Herradura.
The 25-year-old man had fallen into the dry watercourse just before midnight, Thursday night, where it passes through the centre of the village.
The police were the first to arrive but were unable to get him out of the river, owing to his condition and the 2-metre difference between the river wall and the riverbed.
For this reason the Fire Service was summoned and the injured man retrieved with the use of a stretcher and a ladder. An ambulance was standing by to take him to the area hospital in Motril, after the medics had immobilised his injuries.
The rescue operation attracted quite a few locals, as well as a Guardia Civil patrol.
