The next film in English to be shown in Almuñécar’s Casa de la Cultura, and probably the last one until autumn, will be I, Tonya.
The film is about US, ice skater, Tonya Harding and her participation in US Figure Skating Championships and the Olympics. It stars Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan and Allison Janney, amongst others, and is directed by Craig Gillespie.
Synopsis: set in Oregon in the 70’s, at a very early age Tonya Harding forced to leave school and is pushed into ice skating by her unrelenting mother. She soon becomes one of the top figure skaters in the country, despite her ‘white trash’ upbringing.
Dying to get away from her mother, at 15 she meets her teenage husband to-be, Jeff, but it’s out of the frying pan into the fire as he soon begins to beat her.
Against this background she becomes the first American female figure skater to complete two, triple axel jumps in competition, only later to come in 4th at the following Olympics. Disappointed, she returns home and becomes a waitress, but it doesn’t end there…
So, that’s Tuesday the 8th at 18.00h at the Casa de Cultura, Almuñécar.
