It’s always nice to get off the coast and strike out inland to enjoy somewhere new to eat and places where you can enjoy a good walk.

Well, there’s one place that probably fits both bills and that’s El Molino del Puente just outside Durcal on the old Granada road (N-323).

This converted XVIII-Century watermill is both a rural hotel and a separately run restaurant, nestling on the riverbank surrounded by lush greenery.

The restaurant has both inside and outside seating, with a bar in the main dining area. The dishes, both in quality and preparation, are excellent with a price to match, giving a good quality-to-price ratio.

The restaurant staff actually run the business themselves, as it is autonomous to the hotel, so as you can expect, attention to table service and customer satisfaction is a priority.

Before moving on from the restaurant, if you are into antique furniture, you’re in for a treat, by the way.

And now for the walk (Los Bolos) which starts at the hotel itself. Having eaten to your heart’s content then it’s time to walk it off along the riverbank. Just a gentle stroll accompanied by the melody of flowing water, enjoying the wildlife. No uphill or gradients of any kind; just four kilometres (there and back), enjoying the views, sounds and smells of an almost northern-European countryside.

So, how to get there and where to find it. Come off the A-44 Costa Tropical-Granada Autovia at the Cozvíjar/Dúrcal ext (153) and head past Cozvíjar on the GR-3208 and you will come to a junction where you bear right for Dúrcal.

This lovely stretch of old road will take you past the old, iron railway bridge and down to a narrow, stone bridge across the river. At the other end of the bridge there is a turning on your right to enter the hotel. It is worth noting that before you descend its tree lined drive, there is a very popular drinking fountain on the other side of the road, so don’t forget to take an empty water container along with you.

The hotel/restaurant has ample parking and a garden where the kids or grandkids can play.
