The Medical Staff Union at the Motril area hospital has denounced a “grave shortage of staff,” describing the situation as worse than ever.
Basically, the hospital is 14 doctors down as a result of what they term as, “el mal de los hospitales chicos” (small hospital syndrome).
The Vice-Chairman of the Granada Medical Union, Antonio Fernández, pointed out that Santa Ana is down a gastroenterologist, three anaesthetists, two gynaecologists and eight doctors for the A&E Department.
Hospital Management, on the other hand, says that it is constantly working towards finding solutions for problems that arise from staff shortages.
Meanwhile, up at the new general hospital in Granada (PTS) and at the Hospital Universitario Virgen de las Nieves the A&E department heads have resigned over staff shortages. However, the Regional Health Service denies this, saying that the two staff members had only temporary posts for the duration of the hospital fusion period, which has concluded.
