A dead dolphin was washed up on La Herradura beach yesterday. Beach walkers reported the find and the cleaning company removed the carcass.
According to a spokesman for Urbaser, which is the private company that maintains the beaches in the municipality, the female, striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) of some 25 kilos in weight had been dead some time.
This is the first time this year that a dolphin has been found on the township’s beaches. The last dolphin recovered was in November.
It is always, however, a sad incident when this occurs as the sightings of these mammals off our beaches is always met with fascination and admiration.
