A joint operation between the Policía Nacional and the Catalan Mossos d´Esquadra resulted in the capture of a German fugitive in Barcelona, wanted for murder.
The 25-year-old man, who was captured in the area of the Maremagnum shopping centre, stands accused of killing his partner at the end of July in Gelsenkirchen.
The arrest was thanks to international cooperation between the Spanish, French and German police via the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams (ENFAST).
Enfast tracked his movements through Antwerp and Paris, where he was detected on the 1st of August. Further investigation uncovered that he had headed for Barcelona with the probable intention of reahing Morocco.
With this information the Spanish national police and Catalan regional police staked out the port, airport, train and bus stations. Finally, the police tracked him down to a hostel (B&B). However, he wasn’t in his room.
The suspect had attempted to change his look by shaving off his beard, but to no avail, because the police located him on the Rambla near the above-mentioned shopping centre.
