The Mayor of Huélago was gave a positive reading for drugs after being involved in a car accident which resulted in two people being injured.
The accident occurred on the A-92 where it runs through the municipality of Cúllar Baza. The socialist Mayor, Francisco Javier Martínez, was driving a lorry cab when he ploughed into a car on the hardshould that had broken down.
The impact seriously injured both occupants of the car, who were taken to the area hospital in Baza. The woman was soon allowed to go home but the man, whose condition was described as serious, had suffered head injuries and was transferred to the the Intensive Care Unit at the PTS in Granada city.
At the scene of the accident the Mayor gave a negative first reading in alcohol but positive in drugs.
The following day to the accident, the Mayor resigned, saying that he was very upset by what had happened.
