A Torrox Policía Local patrol managed to stop a man from committing suicide in the early hours of the 6th of May in his holiday flat near the mouth of Río Güi (El Morche).
It was his wife who had alerted the police to her husband’s intentions, after he had phoned her from the flat tell her that he was going to kill himself.
The police managed to gain access to the flat from the balcony of the apartment nextdoor and saw him through the window with a rope around his neck standing on a chair; by the time they had reached him he was already hanging and one of the officers held him up whilst the other cut the rope.
The 43-year-old man and his wife are from Lucena (Córdoba) which is a two hour drive away. As soon as she had alerted the police she set off arriving shortly after his rescue. She expressed profound gratitude to the police for saving his life.
