Until the 24th of March the Spanish Army will be holding manoeuvres in the Motril area with the deployment of a SAM batteries.
The Unidad de Defensa Antiaérea (UDAA), which belongs to the anti-aircraft artillery (MAAA) is based in Cartegena (Murcia) and has a mixed armoury of ASPIDE SAM’s and 35/90 AA cannons.
Also deployed are NASASM missiles from the same regiment (RAAA 73), a battery of portable Mistral missiles from a regiment based in Fuencarral-Madrid (RAAA 71)and a battery of HAWK missiles from a regiment based in Sevilla (RAAA 714).
There is also a light infantry regiment taking part, the 10th of the Spanish Legion, based in Ronda, who will be guarding the missile regiments.
It sounds a like lot of boots but we’re only talking about 400 soldiers in all.
Finally, also included in the manoeuvres is a Spanish Navy frigate, the F101, Álvaro de Bazán, whilst the Spanish Air Force will be providing some fighter aircraft as bandits.
