Acompalia Lanjarón Shop

AcompaliaAcompalia, the palliative care and hospice charity for Granada and the Costa Tropical, prepares to open their first shop and base in Lanjarón.

A former honey processing plant in the Alpujarra spa town, just off the Avenida after the Casita de Papel in Lanjarón’s Calle Peñoncillos. is being adapted to house a second-hand shop, Acompalia office, massage and treatment room and special equipment storage area.

Acompalia is appealing to readers for second-hand items in good condition, as well as volunteers to help with adapting the space ready for the Autumn launch.

“We’ve got a big shopping list,” said Acompalia’s president, Lindsay Ostervig. “Everything from equipment for running the shop and office (including computer, telephone, desks and chairs, etc.) to saleable items, and even a used washing machine in good condition!” (A full list of items needed is available on Acompalia’s facebook page and website, or please call Lindsay on 664 776 251 or email at

Saleable items include clothes, including baby and children’s clothing, books, CD’s and DVD’s (but not videos and cassette tapes); as-new shoes; also jewellery and other accessories, crockery, cutlery and household items. Clothes and textiles should be clean and in good condition.

Lindsay also appealed for volunteers to join the Acompalia team in the run-up to its launch, and once it is open. “We’d welcome more hands on board for painting, putting up shelves, and creating a fresh new look. Even more important, we’re looking for volunteers to run the shop and the office once we open our doors.”

An important service we hope to provide from the centre is a store of mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, special beds etc. These will be available for lending to patients and we are hoping that people will give us any items they have stored which are no longer in use; they could make all the difference to the comfort and quality of life of many patients.

Lindsay says the whole team is excited about getting Acompalia ‘on the map’. “This dedicated space will show where our supporters’ hard-won money is going right now,” she said.
