It appears that the gas-man scam is back in Almuñécar, according to a Town-Hall press release.
The municipal consumer’s rights office has received several complaints recently about ‘gas inspectors’ taking them for a ride.
The consumers’ rights office issued a statement via the Town Hall, recommending that you don’t even let them through the door unless you have personally made an appointment for a gas fitter to visit.
Remember, once they are through the door, it is very difficult to control the situation because they only have to look under the sink at your gas bottle to later charge you for an inspection.
Don’t let them through the door. Orange overalls and a mickey-mouse, trade identity card is not proof that they are who they claim to be.
Another important thing to remember is that what they are doing is not illegal and many are from bona-fide gas-fitter companies, however the tactics they use to get in and the size of the bill they hand you afterwards stretches the concept of ‘legal.’
