The Junta de Andalucia has taken four horses and three donkeys into care after the vet found that they had been mistreated. The animals were removed from a cortijo in Fonelas, to the north of Guadix.
All the animals were half starved and locked in a pen without any food. In the enclosure was also the rotting corpse of a foal.
The plight of the animals was reported to the Junta de Andalucia, who asked the Guardia Civil (SEPRONA) to intervene.
In the meantime the horses and donkeys have been handed over to animal protection associations Albergue CYD Santa María and the Refugio del Burrito .
