Guided Walk to Conchar

excursionists in the salares areaAround 20 excursionists from Almuñécar defied the overcast skies and enjoyed a hike on Sunday (8th) between the Cabra mountain road and the village of Cónchar.

“At first it looked like it would rain but the skies gradually cleared up, although it was a bit gusty at times,” explained excursion guide, Enrique Garín.

The walk started with a climb to the Pico Cerro Herrero, which is next to the Cortijo Pozo Herrero. Picking their way up through the pines they came across quite a few mushrooms and edible toadstools. After that, they descended, walking through the wind park (aero-generators), which are huge when you get to stand under one.

From there they wound through almond groves and abandoned cortijos before ascending again to reach the Atalaya de Salares, which afforded an amazing view of the valley below, the Sierra Nevada and La Alpujarra.

A great day out, as always! The next hike is scheduled for the 23rd will cover the area between Canillas de Albaida and El Saltillo in the Axarquia.
