The Provincial Public Prosecutor for Málaga is recommending a 26-month prison sentence for a goalkeeper who allegedly attacked a referee.
The incident, which occurred in May 2012 on a Nerja playing field, resulted in the aggressor allegedly kicking the ball at the Ref and then jumping on him, punching him in the face, as well as grabbing him by the throat – yellow card?
Anyway, it was a Third-Division match with Huétor-Tájar playing against the home team.
Apart from the public prosecution against him, the referee brings a private case against him, demanding 608 euros in compensation and calling for a fine of 240 euros.
What appears to have sparked off the incident was when the player approached the referee, demanding that he had been fouled within the goal area. The referee didn’t agree. According to the referee the goalie then insulted him, probably implying a part-time employment on the part of his mother of a horizontal nature. The referee then showed him the red card. At this point the reported physical aggression took place.
Regardless of how the law suit turns out, the Real Federación Española de Fútbol has already suspended him for four years.
